Container Gardening Gives You Unlimited Options

Container gardening is becoming hugely popular because the possibilities are unlimited, and it’s so easy and fun to do – even if you don’t have a yard. You can create the look you want with the containers – from sleek glazed ceramic pots to a rustic metal bucket. Virtually anything that can hold dirt can be repurposed into a container.

For your spring flowers, just about anything you can plant in the ground, can grow in a
container. You can plant annuals or perennials. And to give it a lush look, bursting with color, and a gorgeous variety of texture and shape, mix several flowers in the same container, with taller varieties in the center and shorter ones around the edges. The great thing about container gardening is you can rearrange after you plant. If you step back to view your work, and wish you’d planted the Dianthus and trailing Dichondra over there instead, just pick it up and move it!

Vegetables and herbs are also good container garden projects. Herbs especially grow well in containers. You can grow an entire salad on your patio – a mixture of lettuces, chard, kale and other greens are both beautiful and edible, and grow best in spring or fall. Or you can grow a salsa garden in two pots – one for tomatoes (use a smaller variety, like Roma) and one pot for green onions, peppers and cilantro. Vegetable container gardens can grow in regular potting soil, and should be fertilized and watered often. Instead of running up to the store to get cilantro for your guacamole, you just step outside and pick what you want!

Market Basket has everything you need to start a beautiful, creative – and delicious container garden.
