Dear Supporter

Ask President Obama to protect orcas by removing dams.

Southern Resident orcas are the only known resident population of orcas to live in the United States. They were officially listed as endangered and protected under the Endangered Species Act ten years ago, but they continue to face serious threats to their survival.

The top threat to their survival is the dramatic decline on their primary food source, Pacific Chinook salmon. Approximately 80% of the Southern Residents’ diet is Chinook salmon, and their populations have been decimated by dams on Pacific Northwest rivers.

Now, President Obama is considering executive action to remove the four lower Snake River dams.  These dams kill millions of salmon each year and block them from the cool, wilderness streams they need to spawn.  Like the Klamath River dams, these structures are outdated and obsolete, and their restoration and continued operation will cost taxpayers more money than their removal.

We need you to call the White House and add your support for this action – be the voice for the Southern Residents in this important step for their survival.

Call 202-456-1111 Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm EST and tell President Obama:

• Southern Resident orcas are on the brink of extinction
• They need salmon to survive
• Salmon need restored rivers
• The Snake River and Klamath dams need to come down!

The removal of these dams is supported by salmon and orca scientists, fishermen, recreationists, and many other stakeholders, and would restore the environmental and economic life of the lower Snake River and Klamath River Basins.

Please CALL the White House TODAY at 202-456-1111.

Tell them to leave a political legacy by restoring rivers, salmon runs, and Southern Resident orcas!

We appreciate that we can count on you to be the voice of the voiceless - and we are very grateful that you take action when needed.

Thank you!
