Good Ideas Involve the Team, Not Just You
By Michelle Amodio, TMCnet Contributor
In the 3rd party remote call monitoring space, we talk a lot about the customer experience and what decision makers can do to create a positive environment for those who patronize their businesses. Of course, before there can be a happy customer, there has to be a happy team of individuals working toward the greater good for all involved, and creating that kind of environment involves inclusion.
The folks at BPA Quality addressed this very topic in a recent blog post, more specifically, discussing the notion that ideas, while well and good, aren’t going to work unless the ideas are a group effort.
Sure, you can have a spectacular idea that has the ability to streamline corporate processes, but consider this: what if your great idea fell flat because no one else understood it?
Anthony Starr said it best: “Collaboration is the best way to work. It's only way to work, really. Everyone's there because they have a set of skills to offer across the board.”
That’s what BPA quality is getting at, that the idea failed because “it wasn’t theirs.”
If you’re at the helm of a workforce but don’t consider each individual as spokes on the spinning wheels, then no, your team will not be greater than the sum of its parts.
How can decision makers, then, ensure that good ideas not only blossom, but work for everyone involved? It comes down to three things: understand your audience, meaning, how will your team benefit from the change? Plant your idea seeds and let the team be part of seeing it grow. Above all, lead the team to the conclusion that makes them think, contribute and be part of the project.
Essentially, people will participate if they feel they are invested in the idea, and that is better than trying to be a hub without working spokes.
