Dr. Surat Singh, Advocate, Supreme Court of India

Harvard and Oxford educated noted Supreme Court lawyer Dr. Surat Singh will be the key note speaker at forthcoming Global Legal Conference to be held in London on 9th September, 2015. More than 500 lawyers, delegates from law firms and legal service buyers and representative of top multi nationals like Microsoft, Vodafone will be attending the conference. Advocate Dr. Surat Singh would be speaking on ‘Doing business with India – Litigation as a value creator’.

It may be recalled that earlier this year in April, 2015 at another Global Legal Conference held at New Delhi, Dr. Surat Singh was also a key note speaker along with the famous lawyer Mr. Ram Jethmalani.

American President Mr. Barack Obama’s contemporary at Harvard Law School during 1988-90, Dr. Surat Singh feels that law has not been used to its full potential in India. He also feels that laws in India should be simple, transparent, responsible and responsive.  Laws should be few, simple and effective. In India we have too much quantity of laws and too little quality of laws.

Recently, Dr. Surat Singh has been appointed as Chairman of Center for Law and Good Governance by Shobhit University in the presence of Governor Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi. Dr. Surat Singh is of the opinion that Government should be guided by principles and pragmatism. But in India, the Government is being guided by personalities and the real issues which make the difference in the lives of peoples are not fully and effectively discussed, let alone meaningfully addressed.
