West Ham manager Slaven Bilic:  "We played good, we started well. We were well organised, and had a plan. The players worked to the plan perfectly. Their movement, concentration and possession was top level.

"We parked the bus but we didn't put the handbrake on. It was simply great defending when we didn't have the ball."

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew on BBC Sport: “It was a really good performance today - one of the best performances I’ve seen from one of my teams in terms of composure. 

"We can frighten teams with our pace and we did that from start to finish. Our defenders had to defend really well and they did. We’ve added new players but haven’t lost our spirit. We have got technically better players than last season. I’m not saying we’re contenders for Europe but we’re a good side. 

"Mourinho is the top man, he was very honourable in defeat today."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Sport: "The first goal is a cheap goal and that gave them a motivation and fight. The second was a mistake, which can happen. We started brightly and then had Coutinho sent off. I didn't think that was a sending off and neither was the one for Noble as well.

"We didn't defend moments well at all. We need to be much better than that. That opportunity to work the goalkeeper didn't happen. We are disappointed but we'll reflect on it and come back and look to win our next  game."

Jason Roberts on Final Score:  "On the evidence of today I think Liverpool are going to have a disappointing season. Benteke didn't get into the game at all, they need more work on the training ground."

More from Stoke manager Mark Hughes: "We were so clearly the dominant team in the opening stages. It was only a matter of time before we created a chance but unfortunately the referee only saw one side of the coin with the Affelay red card. He raised his hands, which is a sending off. But you have to see the whole incident. He reacted to Craig Gardner raising his hands towards him.

"We had 28,000 people here to see a quality Premier League game and the officials need to take that into account. They were too quick to hand cards around. If I complain to the powers-that-be I will get a double-sided piece of paper with an explanation - but where is the common sense?"

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood: "Anyone who watched that game knows that we should have won. We had 22 shots, the keeper has pulled off a 'worldy 'save and we should have had a penalty. We have been robbed.

Palace defender Damien Delaney on BBC Sport: “That was full throttle for 90 minutes. It wasn’t a sit-in, 11-men beside the ball game. We had a good few chances and could have made it more comfortable.

“We’ve come here the last two years, sat in and got beat. But we said ‘if we’re going to get beat, let’s have a go’. Once we got them on the back foot we thought we could keep them low after their start to the season. 

"There was a lot of Chelsea men in the box at the end, Kurt Zouma came forward. We were trying to throw ourselves in the way of everything.

"It’s three points, that’s all it is. We have nine points so far, 31 more and I’ll be happy – whether we get them by Christmas or May.”

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri tells BBC Sport: "We conceded the goal and until then we were playing well. After the goal we slowed down the tempo and had no great personality.

"There were 10 minutes when Bournemouth played very well. In the second half we put them under pressure and made some good chances. I think at the end we deserved to draw.

"It's important to take one point from a difficult match. 

"We have a week now where the players go to their national team and when they come back we must re-start with the same mentality."

Eddie Howe tells BBC Sport : "Injuries were key in the game, particularly in our ability to change tactically and it's not nice when you see your team-mates going off injured. 

"They all look nasty and at the moment they are in the treatment room being assessed, although we won't know how serious they are until they get scanned. 

"I think we've had a decent enough start in terms of performances. I'm a bit disappointed not to have got more points. I thought we could have got three today but sometimes you have to be grateful for a point."

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho on BBC Sport: "Congratulations to Palace. It’s a fantastic result for them and a very good performance. We didn’t deserve to lose. But Palace gave us a very difficult game. The result should be a draw, which would still be bad for us. We did enough not to lose. We had good opportunities, a huge penalty appeal at 0-0.

"My two centre-backs and keeper played a very good game. We created lots of chances but we had a couple of players who were not in the game. When the team is not consistent and there aren’t 10 players on the pitch at a certain level it’s difficult. I said before the season, it’d be more difficult to win matches against non-title candidates as they all have good players and good teams - like West Ham winning at Liverpool today."

"I'm not sure Manchester City need Kevin De Bruyne. If anyone can finish above them, they'll win the league."

West Brom boss Tony Pulis, when asked if Stoke deserved to have two men sent off:  "Have a look and see what you think.

"We moved the ball too slowly when they went down to nine men. We tried to open it up a bit by bringing on Rickie Lambert and Callum McManaman but we couldn't. But we're just pleased to get our first win."

Stoke manager Mark Hughes: "I'm delighted with the performance of my team under difficult circumstances.

"The first red card, Ibrahim Affelay reacted to being flicked in the face. By the letter of the law, maybe they both should have been sent off.

"With the second one, Charlie Adam ends up standing on the lad's leg after the other player had followed through on him. I think it was harsh.

"It's not a stamp, it's a step. To get anything from the game after that was difficult.

"They (the officials) also played a minute too long in the first half and they scored their goal in that time. I asked about that and he said it was because Jack Butland was wasting time. I don't agree with that."

Jason Roberts on Final Score:  "Palace deserve every credit. Scott Dann and the defensive unit got things absolutely right. Yes, Hazard didn't play well and Pedro didn't get on the ball much, but Palace stopped them."

"It's a bizarre result. West Ham were coming off two defeats where they'd conceded six goals. Liverpool played exceptionally well against Arsenal on Monday and they had four of their new signings in the team, and they ended up getting an absolute doing."

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he will cope with his squad and will not ask to sign more players.

Jamie Vardy tells Sky Sports: "We did not come out of the blocks properly in the first half. They got the goal and we came under pressure but we weathered the storm and came into it in the second half.

"We ground it out and got the draw which was probably a fair result and with the international break coming it just keeps the momentum going."

West Ham defender Winston Reid: "I think that means a lot for the fans, we haven't won here in a long time. Our last two games have been poor so come here and win 3-0 is great. 

"We did the simple stuff right - we took chances when we had them and limited Liverpool to a couple of chances. The referee felt there was red card for Mark Noble. He was brilliant today apart from that card - I think the referee saw it as different from the players.

Sheffield United are on course for revenge for last season's League One  play-off defeat to Swindon with a quick double from Neill Collins and Billy Sharp setting up a likely fourth successive league win as the Blades lead 2-0. 

Winless  Colchester have come back from 2-0 down to level 2-2 against Scunthorpe with defender George Elokobi equalising with his first goal for the club.

Hull look to have banked the points in the Championship against Preston with Curtis Davies volleying them 2-0 following a corner.

Birmingham's Steven Gleeson has scored at former club MK Dons to give the Blues a 1-0 lead in a delayed Championship kick-off.

Leaders Ipswich came from 2-0 down to level against Brighton thanks to a David McGoldrick penalty but Brighton have restored their lead thanks to Tommet Hemed's second goal of the game.

A Billy Paynter penalty against former club Carlisle has put Hartlepool 2-1 up against Carlisle in League Two.

  "Yannick Bolasie should've scored there. At 2-0 it might have even been game over. I'm quite surprised by the changes Jose Mourinho has made here - he's chasing the game and brought on two inexperienced players."  

Danny Drinkwater with a testing ball in from the right, Wes Morgan stretches, doesn't quite get there but Cherries keeper Artur Boruc does really well to turn it away. A late Leicester charge?

This would be a shock result, let's be honest. Chelsea have started the season poorly but they just do not lose at home. 

"It's a fantastic break and goal for Palace. It's come down the left and they have got to the byline for too easily for Chelsea's liking. It fell for Bakary Sako and for the second week in a row he's put the ball in the net. It's not completely surprising given how well Palace have played."

Aston Villa assistant manager Ray Wilkins takes time out from his warm-up duties to sign autographs for fans. Like always happens, it was just two little lads when he went over. Then the grown-ups waded in with their programmes and pens.

Ninety-nine games, 76 wins, one defeat, 250 points. We've said it already, but that really is a great record.

Jose Mourinho takes charge of his 100th home fixture as a Premier League manager today, with visitors Crystal Palace facing perhaps the most difficult away trip in world football.

In two spells as Chelsea boss, Mourinho has lost just once in the league at Stamford Bridge - a shock 2-1 loss to Sunderland in April 2014.

His record is the best of any manager in the Premier League era.

The lunchtime kick-off from the Championship is a meeting of the draw specialists. Derby and Leeds have played eight league games between them this season without a win to show for it. Neither have been beaten yet, though, either.

County are firm favourites for this one. The Rams have won each of their last six league games at home to Leeds, and are unbeaten in their last eight against them at the iPro Stadium. 

They also welcome back Jeff Hendrick and Jamie Hanson, allowing Paul Clement to revert back to 4-3-3, a formation, mirrored by Leeds boss Uwe Rosler, who has midfielder Lewis Cook back after suspension.

"Just three games into the new season and already there's a cautious optimism sweeping around Anfield and an anxious pessimism enveloping the east-end.

"Yet to concede, Liverpool look hard to beat with a solid defence providing the platform for their flair players to prosper. Significantly, all the new signings have settled in quickly this time.

"West Ham's opening weekend win at Arsenal already resembles a false dawn. Home defeats by Leicester and Bournemouth have brought them crashing back to earth.

"There's not much depth to the squad and already there are signs of unrest. It could be a long season."

Good effort by the West Ham fans making the long trip to Liverpool today, considering the Hammers' record at Anfield.

They have not won at Liverpool in the league since 1963, three years before England won the World Cup and a time when the Beatles were topping the charts.

"That is long but it doesn't mean a lot to me," said West Ham boss Slaven Bilic. "This is a new game and new players. That has happened over the last 52 years but this is a completely new game."

"Leicester are on their longest unbeaten run in the top flight (seven games) since the start of the 2000-01 season, when the club were competing in the Uefa Cup.

"But it's a cautionary tale; they lost nine of their last 10 games and finished 13th. Exactly a year after taking them to the top of the league, manager Peter Taylor was sacked.

"Eddie Howe will be feeling a lot happier after Bournemouth secured their first ever top-flight win. Good performances are all very well, but points are what keep the wolf from the door. He'll be keen to add more in the coming weeks."

I saw Watford at Everton and they played really well but just lacked a bit of concentration for the last 20 minutes. They are a counter attacking team. I think they will struggle a bit against Manchester City. I just think City and their attitude is completely different to last season. "The outstanding issues involving the 24-year-old’s proposed move from Wolfsburg have now been resolved.

"City are expected to pay a club record fee for the former Chelsea man, exceeding the £49m they paid Liverpool for Raheem Sterling earlier in the summer.

"De Bruyne was not included in the Wolfsburg squad for last night’s game against Schalke."

"Aston Villa's 4-0 win at Sunderland in the sides' last meeting was Gus Poyet's last game as the Black Cats' boss, and a similar result might have Dick Advocaat seriously reconsidering his own future with the club.

Sunderland have had a torrid start to the season with two defeats and a draw in the Premier League and while they picked up a win in the League Cup - 6-3 against Exeter - conceding three goals to a League Two side is still a cause for concern.

Aston Villa only have one league win so far this season but they've had a tough start with games against Crystal Palace and Manchester United and you'd fancy Rudy Gestede to cause the Black Cats defence a few problems today.

Michael Oliver has had an unusual week.

After taking charge of Arsenal v Liverpool on Monday, he spent Thursday evening watching his wife Lucy officiate Arsenal Ladies v Reading Women in the Continental Cup. So far, so ordinary.

Then, at half-time, Oliver hears this announcement while sitting in the stands:

"If there is a qualified assistant referee in the stadium, please can they make themselves known."

What were the chances? Not only a qualified referee, but a Premier League/Uefa one. He promptly stepped up and ran the line for the second half of the match.

Bet that made for some interesting chat in the car on the way back to the Olivers' house that night.

Arsenal fans will no doubt settle for an uneventful 1-0 win but for all the neutrals, Newcastle versus Arsenal is a belting way to kick off the day.

In the last nine fixtures between the two, 34 goals have been scored - eight of those coming in that unforgettable 4-4 draw between the two in 2011.

Of course it is, but if Arsenal don't beat Newcastle today, you sense their fans might start getting a little bit twitchy.

This is supposed to be the year that the Gunners show themselves as genuine title contenders, but that's not been the case so far.

Three games in and Arsenal have been less than impressive, having managed just one win, and that was an unconvincing victory at Crystal Palace.
