Cut costs with free back to school haircuts
You can even get a free manicure or makeover too!

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Something as simple as a new haircut can really boost a child's confidence and self-esteem as they head back to class. Some area businesses are picking up the tab and offering free kids haircuts.

Remington College's cosmetology school knows the beginning of a new school year can be scary.

"The least of their worries should be a haircut and what their appearance looks like," said the school's director Sho Roberts.

For the entire month of August, the three Houston-area Remington College locations are offering free haircuts to students 18 and under, with no appointment required.

"They can walk in anytime between 9:30 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. and they can come back from 12:40 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the afternoon," Roberts said.

With a small school supply donation, adults can get in on the deal too.

"Bring in a notebook, a pencil, a pen and we will offer a complimentary haircut to an adult or a manicure or pedicure," Roberts said.

In the last seven years, Remington has given more than 18,000 free haircuts.

There's a similar deal going on for the first time at the Aveda Institute in The Woodlands.

Anyone under the age of 18 can visit the salon on Monday, Aug. 17 and receive a free haircut. The salon accepts appointments, but will take any walk-ins if they have space.

They will also offer complimentary mini makeup lessons the week of Aug 17-21 with their new fall makeup line.

Keep in mind that at both Remington and the Aveda Institute, the haircuts are done by students under the supervision of instructors.
