PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Rogers State women's track and field team competed at the Wendy's Pittsburg State Invitational Saturday inside Carnie Smith Stadium.
Hailey Gillispie continued her impressive freshman campaign, this time running the 800 meters in a fifth-place time of 2 minutes, 27.21 seconds in the top flight of runners.
Jocelyn Buckner was not far behind finishing 14th in 2:31.92 while
Christi Dougherty ran to 17th in 2:33.88.
Dougherty earned a top-10 finish to start her afternoon in the 1,500 meters pacing three Hillcats at the distance. The junior placed ninth crossing the finish line in 4:59.95 seconds.
Andi Gourd (5:32.45) and
Hunter Thompson (5:36.71) placed 25th and 27th, respectively, for RSU.
The Hillcats had another strong showing in the 100 meters in their inaugural outdoor track and field season as
Audrianna Morgan ran into the top 10, finishing ninth in 12.67 seconds.
Cambridge Coy and
Candace Monigold each placed inside the top 20 sprinting to times of 13.22 and 13.37 as Coy won her heat.
Morgan claimed another ninth-place finish on the day recording a time of 26.08 seconds in the 200 meters. Monigold and Coy ran times of 27.61 and 27.88, respectively, in one of the largest fields at the meet.
Olivia Jalomo paced three Hillcats who competed in the 5000 meters, placing 11th with a time of 19:21.18.
Hannah Tobias followed in 18th, turning in a time of 20:04.08 and
Hunter Thompson rounded out the RSU runners in the race with a time of 20:53.45.
The Hillcats closed the day turning in a fifth-place performance in the 4x400 relay as Gillispie,
Ashtyn DeRoin,
Jocelyn Buckner and Monigold ran a time of 4:21.93.
Trey Taylor ran to a 10th-place result for the RSU men's cross country team in the 800 meters running the two laps in 1:58.02.
Coty Fox led four Hillcat men in the 5000 meters, tallying a 16th place finish in 16:04.63.
Rogers State returns to the track April 10-11 competing in the high-profile Shocker Invitational hosted by Wichita State in Wichita, Kansas.
