Vaqueros to Play Eight Games Against 2015 Postseason Participants

Complete Schedule

EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Wednesday that the women's basketball team will play 28 games leading up to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament, including 11 at home, starting on Fri., Nov. 13 at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tournament.

The Vaqueros will play East Carolina and Cal Poly during the two-day tournament in Corpus Christi before returning home to face Concordia on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.

The schedule includes eight games against 2015 postseason participants, including three against NCAA Tournament participants New Mexico State and Oklahoma State, and five against WNIT participants Bakersfield, Eastern Michigan, Kansas State and TCU.

"Once again, we will play a very, very tough schedule with a majority of those games on the road, but it is what you do if you want to compete for a WAC Championship," Vaqueros head coach Larry Tidwell said. "This schedule will certainly test our mental and physical toughness."

After concluding their first home stand against Texas Lutheran on Nov. 18, the Vaqueros embark on a seven-game road trip, their longest in five years, that sees them visit Eastern Michigan, Santa Barbara, TCU, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Incarnate Word, Oklahoma State and Kansas State from Nov. 21 through Dec. 7.

The Vaqueros bounce back by playing eight of their next 11 games at home, starting on Dec. 17 against Incarnate Word. After a trip to Houston, the Vaqueros play a three-game home stand against Evangel, Grand Canyon and Utah Valley Dec. 30 through Jan. 9. The Vaqueros then take a weekend trip to Chicago State and Missouri-Kansas City before hosting three more games against CSU Bakersfield, Seattle U and New Mexico State. Jan. 21-30.

The Vaqueros play five of their final seven regular season games on the road, with home games coming on Feb. 13 against Missouri-Kansas City and Feb. 27 against Chicago State.

All home games will be at 7 p.m. with the exception of the Feb. 13 game, which will be at 1 p.m. Doors open one hour before scheduled tip-off.

The WAC Tournament runs March 9-12 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The WAC Tournament Champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

"In preparing our team for this schedule, winning at home is a must and hopefully we can win each of those games in front of a packed house." Tidwell said. "We need the support of the entire Valley as we are definitely UTRGV and Valley proud."

The Vaqueros can begin full team practices on Oct. 2.
