Judith Lynn Smith July Artist of the Month at Vigo library

"Movement" oil painting by Judith Lynn Smith

“Movement,” oil painting by Judith Lynn Smith

Oil paintings by Judith Lynn Smith will be featured throughout July in the River City Art Association Artist of the Month Gallery in the Vigo County Public Library at Seventh and Poplar streets.

After a life-long love of art, Smith had the opportunity to learn oil painting – and it very quickly became her “passion.” She has explored a variety of subjects – which has enabled her to exhibit in a variety of exhibitions and venues – from abstract art to realistic landscapes and seascapes – from contemporary sunrises and sunsets to her popular sea and exotic bird paintings. She also has found an audience for her lighthouses, mountain scenes and still life.

Smith has a style that contains both impressionist and realistic influences – as well as a contemporary design flair that is most notable in her birds and still life. She depends on correct drawing techniques, with a strong feeling for balance and composition. Many of her paintings feature bold colors – while others depend on values derived from a limited palette, or even gray and white.

Smith is involved in exhibitions and competitions throughout the state. She is a member of several art galleries, groups, guilds and clubs in Central Indiana. This has enabled her to meet and work with many artists – who have been so supportive and encouraging. She has paintings on exhibit in Noblesville, Zionsville, Terre Haute, Indianapolis and Crawfordsville.

You may view Smith’s paintings, as well as her bio, shows and exhibits, and interesting comments about her monthly activities – including an archive history of her four years of art adventure – at artbyjudi.blogspot.com.

RCAA meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the VCPL. For membership information visit rivercityart.org or call president Mike Bender at 812-251-7724.
