The festive, emotional and romantic spirit of Mexico animated Brian Atwood’s spring shoe collection. Vivid floral motifs drawn from Frida Kahlo’s paintings showed up as hand-painted silk hibiscus flowers on sky-high sandals with straight graphic heels or Forties-inspired cork platforms. Atwood said he used vibrant silk with a print that came from a photo of sombreros taken from above. Other models featured cascades of multicolored beaded fringe, watersnake printed in Aztec patterns and inlaid mosaic suede. Shown here is a flat espadrille with elaborate woven nappa cords and exuberant tassel. Visitors were serenaded by a Mariachi band.
