Red-Hot Offense Leads Explorers to Fourth Straight Win, 79-69, Over GW

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Jordan Price scored 23 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists to lead the La Salle University men's basketball team to its fourth straight victory, a 79-69 defeat of George Washington in Atlantic 10 action on Sunday afternoon. The Explorers (10-5, 4-1 A10) used an efficient offensive performance that saw them shoot a season-best 61.4 percent from the field including 11-of-17 (64.7%) beyond the three-point arc.

Price, who went 9-for-11 from the field and 4-of-5 from three-point range, opened the scoring with a triple on the first La Salle possession. Junior B.J. Johnson also knocked down a three as part of a 12-4 run that started the contest off in a positive direction for the Explorers.

George Washington was able to pull to within 14-11 after a jumper from Jordan Roland, but Price answered with a short jumper that was followed by a layup from junior Tony Washington. The Colonials continued to fight and a three from Roland again trimmed their deficit to three. But senior Cleon Roberts connected on a pair of threes and Price knocked down one of his own to push the margin to double figures at 29-19 with 8:23 left in the opening half.

The Explorers held that same 10-point advantage at halftime, shooting an incredible 68.2 percent over the first 20 minutes. GW scored the first six points of the second stanza to cut the La Salle lead to 40-36, and nearly six minutes later with the tally 49-45 at the 12:41 mark, Price hit a layup that kickstarted a 21-4 run that put the game at a comfortable margin. Over that span, the Explorers received eight points from Price and five more from Johnson as the lead vaulted to 70-49. From there, La Salle salted away its sixth win over its last seven games.

Despite foul trouble, Johnson extended his string of consecutive games in double-figure scoring to 13 with 14 points. Roberts also reached double digits with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and 3-of-3 from three-point range. GW was led by Jair Bolden who had 16 points in defeat.

La Salle returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 19 against Davidson at Tom Gola Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and the contest will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
