Police come under fire during SWAT situation at Marietta gun store

MARIETTA, Ga. — Marietta police said their officers came under fire during a SWAT situation at a gun store.

Police said a break-in was reported early Tuesday morning at the Deercreek gun store early on South Fairground Street and South Marietta Parkway.

Police said the burglars cut their way in through the ceiling.

Officers said when they arrived they saw movement inside the business.

A SWAT team was called in to assist.

Investigators told Channel 2's Audrey Washington they first arrested two suspects from the store rooftop. As those suspects were taken into custody, authorities say someone inside the store started shooting at police.

"We're unable to tell where exactly he was shooting from, but obviously officers fired back because when you're getting shot you're going to fight," Marietta officer Brittany Wallace said.

Gunfire was exchanged between that suspect and police. No one was hit and the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspects were identified as Maurice Irwin, Rashad Kirkland and Rashaud Brewer.

"I had nothing to do with it, nothing at all. I don't know the perpetrators," Dennis Speed said.

Speed said he was sleeping at the barbershop because he crashed his car. He said he wanted to stay away from the scene.

"Oh I was woke, but I wasn't about to go rush to the scene," he said.

Police said in light of recent events, they aren't taking any chances.

"There is a fear right now, in law enforcement. People seem to hate us," Wallace said.

The standoff ended just before 9 a.m.

One suspect was slightly injured when he jumped off the roof before being apprehended.
