Wallabies winger Henry Speight has appeal against ban thrown out

Wallabies and Brumbies winger Henry Speight has been unsuccessful in appealing the five-week ban handed to him for a tip tackle.

Speight was shown a straight red card for his tackle on Juan de Jongh in their Super Rugby play-off win over the Stormers earlier this month. Such was the severity of the tackle, he was hit with a five-week ban, a suspension he later appealed.

But despite Speight's attempts to have the ban reduced, he will be unavailable until July 25. The timeframe means he missed the Brumbies Super Rugby semi-final loss to the Hurricanes and will also be forced to miss Australia's first two games in the Rugby Championship.
