Name: Battle of the Ages Workforce Summit
Date: February 1, 2017
Time: 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM EST
The Upstate Workforce Board and Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce
invite you to "Battle of the Ages"!
Gen Ys-also known as Millennials- are the 54 million adult Americans
aged between 18 and 34 in 2015, who now make up one third of the American workforce,
the largest generation at work. This segment of the workforce were born in 1978 or later
is growing fast and will soon overshadow the GenXers and Baby Boomers.
Managers are increasingly grappling with Millennials' generational differences
in their work forces, as problems can arise from differing mindsets and communication
styles of workers that were born in different eras. The frictions may be aggravated by new
technology and work patterns that mix workers of different ages in ever-changing teams.
But there is no need to throw in the towel!
This event is geared towards employers and employees who need to know how to take
advantage of the differences in values and expectations that this generation brings to the
workforce. Hear from other employers who are doing it right, while getting your questions
answered
by a panel of Millennials and businesses.
Your $25.00 advance registration includes a delicious hot breakfast,
panel discussion and two breakout sessions.
Learn to recognize and adapt to generational differences,
keep employees engaged and get saved by the bell!
f you have any questions about the event or how to register, please contact [email protected] .
From the iconic songbook of Johnny Cash comes
Ring of Fire,
a unique musical about love and faith, struggle and success, rowdiness and redemption,
and home and family.
Presented by the Spartanburg Little Theatre,
Ring of Fire
hits the stage
at the Chapman Cultural Center with performances January 13, 14, 20, and 21 at 8 pm,
and January 15, 21 and 23 at 3 pm.
A live band, led by music director Joy Finch, backs up veteran SLT performers
Brandon Gaunt, Lori Guthrie, Brandon Higginbotham, Janna McClure, Josh Tennant,
and John Wharton as they take you on a musical journey through the life of Johnny Cash,
whose iconic style spanned from gospel to folk, rock to blues, and country in between.
"Ring of Fire
is less a biography of Johnny Cash, like the film
Walk the Line,
and more a celebration of his life and legacy through his music," says director Jay Coffman.
"From the c
otton fields of Arkansas to the Grand Ole Opry,
the story of his life is told through his lyrics."
Featuring over 30 of your favorite hits-including "I Walk The Line," "A Boy Named Sue,"
"Folsom Prison Blues," and the title tune "Ring of Fire"-performed by a multi-talented cast,
Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash paints a musical portrait of the Man in Black that
promises to be a foot-stompin', crowd-pleasin' salute to a uniquely American legend.

Jan. 5-26
Today there is a give and take between the fields of art therapy and art
education. Without art education, art therapy would not have had a place to blossom,
and in return, the research done by art therapists has made its way
back into the classroom. Paperworks will spotlight the intersection of the two
fields and showcase the strengths of each. Artists Gunter and Hurlbut will
present a Gallery Talk on January 5th at 6:00pm in the gallery followed by
a reception from 6:30-8:00pm.
Jan 27-28, 7:30 PM; Jan 29, 3:00 PM
Join us for an enchanting evening of soaring arias and sweeping ballgowns,
where fairytales really do come true. Converse Opera Theatre presents this charming
3-act chamber opera, true to the original French version of the Cinderella tale. It is a
wonderful opportunity to introduce young people to
opera, and any child dressed like Cinderella or Prince Charming, accompanied
by an adult, will get in free.

Feb. 10-11: Fire and Passion: The Studio Series
The Studio Series is presented in the Ballet Spartanburg Studios
at the Chapman Cultural Center.
Our third ballet for the season, our Studio Series- Fire and Passion, is approaching in February. It is a very cool way to appreciate dance in a more intimate setting which is
in our Ballet Spartanburg studio with a glass of champagne. We set this around Valentine's Day as
we feel
it is the perfect way to have a "date night" or just a "night out" for anyway. We had such
a great response to the studio series last year. People loved it and this year we are focusing on dances with a "Fire and Passion" theme.
We want to offer to all
Spartanburg Downtown Association Members a $10 ticket for either the
February 10th, Friday or February 11th, Saturday night 8PM shows. This includes a glass
of champagne and it is a one hour performance. This is the perfect evening
and gift for anyone for Valentine's Day.
All you need to do is call our office at 583-0339. Tell Tracey, our office administrator, you are
a member of the
Spartanburg Downtown Association and which night you'd like to reserve. Don't wait! We can only seat 100 per show and the shows will sell out.
