FORMER Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis bid an emotional farewell to a large crowd of supporters outside Athens this evening before boarding an awaiting spacecraft to his home planet of Zantlox in the Delatar Quandrant some 470mn light years away in the constellation Orion.

Mr. Varoufakis, who claims he was sent here by a group of Zantlox elders “to save the earth from itself”, thanked the Greek people for their co-operation and their support over the past six months while he was dealing with their massive financial crisis.

Speaking from a corn field on the outskirts of the capital, the 54-earth-years-old Zantlon held back tears as he waved civilians goodbye, stating that his work here was done and it was time to move on to a new project in another space and time continuum.

“You people have shown great strength in the face of adversity. It was my great honour to represent such a determined bunch of people in my time as finance minister and I hope you have at least learned a fraction of what I have from your race here on earth,” he said. “Alas, my work here is done and I must travel home to my planet to report on your fantastic progress. Thank you all”.

Following a brief maintenance check, Mr. Varoufakis waved one last time to the crowd before entering his craft and taking off at a breakneck speed towards the heavens.

While in power, the alien dealt with a range of important issues between the Greek government and the IMF, forcing a successful referendum that said no to austerity measures being inflicted on the Greek people.
