Cardimax - Clark Ultramarathon Athlete's Guide 2015

Page 1

Welcome to the Cardimax-Clark Ultramarathon! I have raced a couple of road and trail ultramarathon races, both here and abroad and has been organizing races as part of my passion. Together with the organizing team and our mentors, we bring together different perspective and expertise, aiming to provide an extraordinary race experience on the roads of the Clark Freeport Zone. The Cardimax-Clark Ultramarathon race will be tough yet unforgettable. We want our runners to dig deep and explore the innate dormant strength in them. We want everyone to experience the special camaraderie and friendship among each competitor, volunteers, race officials and spectators. Thank you for joining the first edition and Congratulations! – JON LACANLALE Jon has finished the following international races: UTHK 177K in 2015, TransLantau in 2015, Trailwalker 100 (HK) in 2009, GNW100 (Australia) in 2010, UTMB (France) in 2011, Western States 100 (USA) in 2012, and Bighorn 100 (USA) in 2013. In the Philippines, some of his major races are Hardcore 100 miles (Phils. 2013, 2014, 2015)TNF 100 Philippines 2008-2014 (except 2011), Botak 100K, BDM160, 2011 first runner up, BDM102, 2009-2012, Four Lakes 100K (2013). Back in 2010, during my early years of running, I would wake up at 3am on weekends and drive to Clark with my friends to train for my first few ultramarathon races. I always enjoyed running on those nicely paved treelined roads and wide highways which is a mix of flat and rolling terrain; not to mention the wide choices of restaurants in the area. The idea of having an ultramarathon race in Clark has always been in my mind.

Tin Ferrera is an ultramarathoner and a crossfit and yoga enthusiast. She ran her first race (5k) in late 2008 and her first marathon and ultramarathon in 2010. She is a CPA, an entrepreneur and heads a Management (Finance and Marketing) Consultancy firm. . CONTACT: email: @christine.ferrera@gmail.com phone: 09088131086 – blog:2timothy.net

Having raced various distances from 5Ks to 200K, I have nurtured the intention to “pay it forward” to the community that has helped me sustain my love for running; a community that is a mix of aspiring and seasoned ultramarathoners. It is a joy to be able to gather everyone in an 18-week journey that culminates in their first or nth ultramarathon road race on September 5 in an ideal venue. We enjoyed the opportunity to share our own experience; invite professionals and experts to help us learn more about running, cross training, yoga, hydration and nutrition, gears, among others; and prepare for the race itself. We hope to give everyone an experience that will be challenging yet enjoyable and memorable. This would not have been possible if not for the help of our friends, supporters, media partners, sponsors and our race challengers. Welcome to Cardimax-Clark Ultramarathon! There could not have been better timing for Cardimax to partner with Clark Ultramarathon on its initial undertaking. We decided last year to re-launch the brand in 2015, and this involved logo, label, and packaging makeovers, but we wanted to do more than our usual promotion to doctors as a supplement for cardiac and geriatric patients. We knew that the product had more to offer and more markets to open up: we ourselves at Integrated were consumers and believers of Cardimax and wished more people would share the benefits with us. I have known Tin Ferrera for over a decade, years before she entered the running scene. I have witnessed her progress in and sincere dedication to the sport, which is why supporting her and Atty. Jon’s venture in race organization was an easy decision. It was not just a synergy of purpose (promoting health) but a synergy of ideals (raising the integrity and quality of races, promoting local tourism and socio-civic interests). Thus, the idea of “doing more and doing it better” was an exact fit for Cardimax. L-Carnitine has been recognized as a weight loss supplement, but we want to make it known that it is more important than that. It helps our body function the way it should: it is necessary to transport fat into the mitochondria of the cells to produce energy. Whether it is energy for a sport or our simple daily activities, energy for a sick or recovering patient, energy for the elderly, Cardimax helps create it naturally and efficiently. Cardimax – Harness your own energy!

HARNESS YOUR OWN ENERGY TRAINING SESSIONS The Cardimax- Clark Ultramarathon journey started last May as participants were given a Recommended Training Program designed by Race Director Jon Lacanlale with the goal to help them meet their racing goals. Ultramarathoners Tin Ferrera, Alfred delos Reyes, Daphne Codilla, Doodsie Mallari, Wilnar Iglesia and Jerome Bautista spearheaded the training sessions and served as mentors. Coach Saturnino Salazar, Yoga Instructor JC Ty and representatives from Ayala Triads (Gia Estrella and Zaldy Santillan), RunSimple (Jon Las Bruce) and Team Soleus (Roselle Abajo and Amor Gabriel also shared their experience and expertise during the training sessions. The Harness Your Own Energy Sessions was made possible with the help of Cardimax L-Carnitine, Urban Ashram and Simple Hydration and event venue partners Clark Development Corporation, Second Wind Running Store and 100 Miles Café.
