CALDWELL, N.J. – Caldwell University senior softball player Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) has been selected the 2015 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Woman of the Year, the NCAA announced today. Calderon is one of 147 female student-athletes to be named a Woman of the Year honoree by conferences and independent schools across all three divisions.

An excellent student, Calderon was named to the Capital One Academic All-America first team on May 28. She also was included on the Academic All-America third team in 2014, making her Caldwell's first two-time Academic All-American. Also a three-time member of the CACC Spring All-Academic Team, Calderon received the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award three times. She graduated in May with a degree in psychology and will attend California Baptist University to pursue a master's degree.

On the field, she is a four-time all-CACC honoree at catcher who received Daktronics All-American honorable mention this season. As a senior Calderon batted .405 with 14 doubles, seven homers and 38 runs batted in. Earlier this month, she led the Cougars to the CACC Tournament championship and was selected the tournament MVP.

An All-American and the CACC Player of the Year in 2013, Calderon holds the Cougars' all-time records for RBIs (188), doubles (65) and total bases (406). She also ranks second at Caldwell in home runs (25), third in hits (248) and slugging percentage (.619), eighth in triples (nine) and ninth in batting average (.378). During her four years, the Cougars won two CACC championships and participated in four NCAA Division II East Region Tournaments.

On campus, Calderon was a member of Caldwell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She also volunteered with the softball team at the team's free clinic for local youth softball players and participated in a Midnight Run to bring food and supplies to the homeless in New York City.

The Woman of the Year selection committee will next select the top 10 honorees in each division. These top 30 honorees will be announced in early September.  The selection committee will then choose and announce the top nine finalists (three from each division) at the end of September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will vote from amongst those nine finalists to determine the 2015 Woman of the Year.

The top 30 honorees will be honored and the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named at the annual ceremony in Indianapolis on Oct. 18.

Now in its 25th year, the NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.
