History Channel Explores ‘Roanoke: Search for The Lost Colony’

One of the Outer Banks’ most famous and historical true stories will be featured in the new documentary Roanoke: Search for The Lost Colony, premiering on The History Channel tonight.

The two-hour documentary will attempt to solve America’s oldest mystery, and the story upon which Paul Green’s immortal play The Lost Colony is based, performed each summer nightly here on Roanoke Island on the site where the actual events happened. 

From the official synopsis: “For over 400 years, the disappearance of 117 colonists from Roanoke Island has been America’s oldest mystery. Now, a mysterious stone inscription may lead to uncovering the truth. Expert stonemasons Jim and Bill Vieira team up with maverick archaeologist Fred Willard to investigate the mystery and find out what happened to the lost colony.”

Roanoke: Search for The Lost Colony premieres on The History Channel tonight (Monday, Oct. 26) at 9pm.
