The St. John Fisher College softball team dropped a pair of nonconference contests on Wednesday to host University of Rochester. The Cardinals fall to 9-3 on the year, while the Yellowjackets improve to 10-5.

It was a dual between the pitchers, as Fisher's
Lindsey Thayer and Rochester's Brittany Grage both threw complete games and limited their opponents to six hits apiece. Thayer, a freshman, recorded 11 strikeouts, while Grage tallied five.

Rochester took the lead immediately in the first inning, scoring their go-ahead run with a double, sacrifice bunt and fielder's choice.

In the top of the third inning,
Lauren Owens singled down the first base line to score
Kate Disbrow, tying the game at one apiece.

The Yellowjackets chipped away in the bottom of the third, recording a triple followed by a single to take a 2-1 lead.

Rochester earned the insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Thayer recorded her first loss of the year from the circle, falling to 5-1 overall.

Fisher got on the board first with two outs in the first inning. Owens singled up the middle then scored on a
Kristina Balsano double.

Halie Schoff took the loss on the mound, falling to 1-1 on the year.

Fisher returns to action at 3 p.m. Thursday for another nonconference doubleheader at D'Youville College.
