SAN ANTONIO, Texas – After seeing its seven-match winning streak come to an end this week against a ranked opponent, the Nicholls State University women's tennis team got back on track with a convincing 6-1 victory over Texas-Pan American on Friday afternoon at the Mabry Tennis Center.
 
Nicholls (12-3) took courts 2 and 3 in doubles to earn the point and went on to win five of the six singles matches, including three wins in straight sets.
 
UTPA (7-10) prevented the sweep in doubles with a win on the No. 1 court. Marie Aubert and Milou Pietersz teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 2 for the Colonels and Kateryna Nakonechna / Isla Brock pitched a shutout on the No. 3 court with an 8-0 win.
 
In singles, Stephanie Barnett improved to 11-2 on the season with a three-set victory over Katia Stavroulaki on the No. 1 court. Barnett dropped the first set, 6-4, but battled back to take the match by winning the next two sets, 6-4, 6-1. Klara Skopac won both of her sets, 6-3, over Dominique Esparza, while Aubert won both of hers, 6-2, against Reegan Greenwood on the No. 3 court.
 
At No. 4, Pietersz also fought back from a first-set loss to defeat Christel Amsallem, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. Brock was able to bounce back after her first loss of the year, defeating Natacha Minc on the No. 6 court, 6-2, 6-4. Katia Jordan almost completed the sweep for the Colonels at No. 5, but came up short in a tiebreaker against Mariana Ranzahuer, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-6.
 
Nicholls will continue its road trip with a 10 a.m. match against Incarnate Word on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
