LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 6, 2015) – Eight current or former Oklahoma Christian softball players were named Tuesday to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's All-America Scholar-Athlete list for the 2014-15 academic year.
The OC players were among 5,493 collegiate and high school athletes to earn the academic recognition from the NFCA. Of those, 833 competed in NCAA Division II. To qualify for the honor, a student-athlete had to maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average during the academic year.
Only two Heartland Conference schools – OC and St. Mary's (Texas) – were represented on the honor list.
OC players who received the NFCA honor included
Shea Coats, a sophomore Sport, Wellness and Recreation Management major from Tuttle;
Niki Davidson, a sophomore Sport, Wellness and Recreation Management major from Moore;
Monique Elliott, a senior Sport, Wellness and Recreation Management major from El Cajon, Calif.; and
Kelsie Finch, a junior Sport, Wellness and Recreation Management major from Argyle, Texas.
Also receiving the honor were
Taylor Mosher, a senior Interdisciplinary Studies major from Flower Mound, Texas;
Kendra Pierce, a senior Sport, Wellness and Recreation Management major from Oklahoma City;
Krystal Rodriguez, a senior Mass Communications/Public Relations-Advertising major from Carrollton, Texas; and
Haley Squier, a sophomore Early Childhood Education major from Edmond.
It was the third straight year during which Elliott and Pierce received the NFCA honor and the second straight year for Davidson and Mosher. Davidson, Finch and Squier remain on the OC squad for the upcoming 2016 season.
