For the first time in recent memory, a single Virginia Union University football player has won three separate CIAA Player of the Week Awards.
Hakeem Holland was named the CIAA Offensive Back of the Week, the CIAA Rookie of the Week, and the CIAA Special Teams Player of the Week.
VUU's
Rodeshawn Joseph was named the CIAA Defensive Back of the Week, along with
Paulin Miano, who was named the CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week and
Dahon Taylor, who was named the CIAA Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Holland, a freshman from Baltimore, Md., had 16 carries for 186 yards and three touchdowns, and a total of 401 all-purpose yards, including returning the game-opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown. Holland's 401 all-purpose yards broke the school record of 350 all-purpose yards held by Michael Hampton against West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2008.
Joseph, a senior from Pompano Beach, Fla., had two interceptions, one of which was returned 50 yards for a touchdown vs. Lincoln.
Miano, a junior from Washington, D.C., led VUU with nine tackles and two sacks against Lincoln.
Taylor, a senior from Florence, N.J., anchored an offensive line which enabled a Virginia Union offense to produce 534 yard in total offense, the fourth-highest in school football history.
Virginia Union is 5-1 on the season and will face Chowan University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, in Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
