BASEBALL WRAPS UP SEASON AT COLLEGE WORLD SERIES

Appleton, WI:  The Ramapo College baseball team ended their NCAA run with a 5-2 loss to #2 Frostburg State University at the 2015 College World Series at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Roadrunners (33-16) finish as one of the top six teams in the championship round. The Bobcats (43-8) move on to play #1 Cortland State University (42-4) later this afternoon and would have to beat the Red Dragons twice to advance to the best-of-three championship series.

Frostburg State got on the board with a solo homerun from Nick Walker in the top of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead.

Scott Peschiani led off the bottom half of the second with a single to right before he moved to second on a sac bunt from Connor Walsh. An infield groundout moved Peshiani to third before Ryan Rinsky drew a two-out walk to put runners on the corners for Ramapo. Bobcat starting pitcher Bennett Schiltz then got Brandon Berger to bounce into an inning ending fielder's choice at second to end the Roadrunner threat.

Walker and Ricky Brady connected on back-to-back singles to lead off the fourth inning before the Roadrunners turned an unconventional double play. Zach Keeler hit a come backer to starting pitcher Brian Cottrell who turned and fired to shortstop Scott Shields at second base. The throw sailed high but Shields was able to tag Brady out for the first out before he caught Walker off of third base. Shields then threw down to Brandon Berger at third, who applied the tag for the second out. Cottrell then recorded a fly out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth Berger and Rob DeAngelis both drew one-out walks before they moved up a base on a ground out. The Bobcats elected to intentionally walk Joe Ventuino before a ground out to second base ended the Ramapo threat and preserved the 1-0 Frostburg lead.

Frostburg loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the sixth inning. Walker bounced into a RBI groundout plating the Bobcats second run, taking a 2-0 lead. With two-outs JT Tipton laced a single back up the middle to score two more extending the lead 4-0. In the top of the ninth the Bobcats added one run on a wild pitch as Jamaal Windom scored for a 5-0 lead.

Berger connected on his second home run of the CWS with a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth inning to put the Roadrunners on the board.  Rinsky singled before and was lifted for pinch runner Bobby Shannon before Berger sent the second pitch he saw over the left field wall. The Bobcats then induced a game ending 6-4-3 double play to preserve the 5-2 victory.

The Roadrunners left nine runners on base in the game while they collected seven hits.

The Bobcats recorded ten hits and starting pitcher Schiltz improved to 10-1 overall. He struck out five, walked five and surrendered two runs in 8.1 innings of work. Nick Huff entered the game and earned his sixth save of the season.

Cottrell (4-2) took the loss for Ramapo in 5.2 innings of work, he surrendered nine hits, four runs while he struck out four and walked two.  Kyle Doerr came in for relief and finished the game. He struck out four walked none and surrendered one hit and one run. Rob DeAngelis and Peshiani each collected two hits for Ramapo in the game.
