Plane crash kills Tulare County Sheriff deputy, pilot

A Tulare County Sheriff's deputy and pilot died in a plane crash near Lake Success Wednesday afternoon.
The crash scene was reported at Highway 190 and Avenue 160.
The deputy was identified as Scott Ballantyne, a 26-year veteran of the department. The pilot, employed by the Sheriff's Department was identified as James Chavez. He was a civilian pilot with more hours in the plane than anyone else.
