Cruz’s campaign told The Daily Caller that it is removing and replacing the ad, and that it would not have included her in the ad had it known of her past.

“The actress responded to an open casting call,” Cruz campaign national press secretary Catherine Frazier told TheDC. “She passed her audition and got the job. Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the casting company. Had the campaign known of her full filmography, we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad. The campaign is taking the ad down and will replace it with a different commercial.”

In a statement to TheDC, male porn star Ron Jeremy “thinks it’s great” that an adult actress would be featured in a Cruz ad, noting that “porn stars are liberal in nature” and that it was “kind of exciting” for a porn star to be featured in the advertisement. Jeremy later said that “Cruz shouldn’t be embarrassed” by the ad.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Lindsay said that she did not do hardcore porn and had appeared in other non-erotic films too. She said she is a Christian conservative who is deciding between Cruz and Donald Trump for president.

Lindsay later tweeted that she was “extremely disappointed” that the campaign decided to remove the ad.

This story has been updated to include comment from the Cruz campaign.
