Shabbat Services this Week
Join us on Friday, July 29 at 7:30pm for Shabbat services led by Herb Friedson & Caryn Goldberg. Following the service, Herb & Martha will host Oneg Shabbat at their home, 2502 Jasu Drive. All are welcome! If anyone else would like to host an oneg in their home following Shabbat services while our renovations are going on, please contact Marty in the LJCC office.
LJCC Serves LINK Thursday, July 28
The LJCC’s day to serve at LINK (Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen) is Thursday, July 28. Please sign up as soon as possible so we can make sure we have everything covered!

Cantor Benjamin Matis to visit the LJCC
Cantor Benjamin Matis will be at the LJCC for the High Holidays and will also join us for a few Friday night services over the next several months. Cantor Matis is a graduate of the elite Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, and went on to earn an MA in Music History at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He was a private student of the legendary Cantor Sol Zim before attending the Cantorial School at The Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Upon graduation, Cantor Matis was inducted into the Cantors Assembly. His beautiful voice and past experience will enhance our worship services and enrich the community. Some pledges have already been made to help to cover this expense. Please consider supporting this effort by sending your donation today designated “Cantor.”
Got Kids? Religious School needs your input!
It is that time again! Time to start thinking about Sunday School. We are a small, parent led, Sunday School, and are working hard to get as many families involved as possible. LJCC Seeks Interim Community Outreach Coordinator – Deadline Friday
The LJCC is looking for a self-motivated, organized leader to work with our staff and board to engage and grow our community in fulfilling our outreach mission. This is a 1-year, half time (20 hrs/week) position; salary up to $20,000/year DOE. Duties include engaging members in LJCC activities, greeting the congregation and guests at Shabbat and other services, organizing security for the LJCC during events, and coordinating the annual Blintz Brunch. An understanding of Jewish rituals, traditions, etc., excellent organization and communication skills, and a flexible schedule are among the qualifications. Community-wide Course: “Judaism for Conversion Candidates” in KC
The Rabbinical Association of Greater Kansas will once again offer a community-wide course, “Judaism for Conversion Candidates” beginning August 25. Classes will take place on Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and the location will rotate among the KC area synagogues. An orientation session is scheduled for August 18, 7:15-8:30 at the Jewish Community Campus. Funding for this program is generously provided by the Menorah Heritage Foundation.
Construction in Process
The social hall will be in the process of transformation throughout most of the summer. If you have questions about use of the social hall, please check in with the office.

Our calendar is currently complicated by renovations. Please contact LJCC Office, 785-841-7636, to schedule events at the center. Email is ljcc@sunflower.com. Deadline to submit items for Weekly Announcements is every Monday at noon. Deadline for newsletter is the 15th of the preceding month.

Currently, there are only 15 households signed up to benefit the LJCC through the Dillons Rewards program. The proceeds from the latest quarter were less than $100.00. We can do so much better! If you shop at Dillons, please enroll in the Community Rewards. If you have not yet enrolled for 2016, your 2015 enrollment is no longer valid.

Go to smile.amazon.com and sign up, choosing “Lawrence Jewish Community, Inc.” After you sign up, your future purchases (minus shipping, gift wrapping, etc.) automatically contribute .05 percent to the LJCC. You don't have to do anything else special, and there’s no cost to you. Contact Marty in the LJCC office with any questions.
Grocery and Gas Certificates
Help support LJCC by buying certificates to use Hy-Vee, Checkers and The Merc. LJCC receives a percentage of each certificate sold. Certificates also work to purchase gasoline at HyVee. In addition, you may register your Dillons Plus shopper card to benefit the LJCC as well. (See announcement above). If you would like to order certificates, please contact the LJCC office. Note: Delivery is an option! Contact the office for details.

You can now pay your dues, make contributions, and buy grocery certificates on-line. Go to our website, www.lawrencejcc.org , and click on the donate button.
