A driver involved in a collision with another car in Brampton Sunday captured on a dashboard camera says he is not at fault after being charged with careless driving.

The driver’s video shows him leaving the Bramalea City Centre Mall at around 4:30 p.m., heading northeast on Peel Centre Drive towards Team Canada Drive.

A car can be seen turning left at that intersection in front of the driver before the two vehicles collide.

The driver with the dashcam was later issued a ticket for careless driving in connection with the crash. He contends, however, that his video shows that he was not at fault.

The driver told CTV Toronto that police refused to look at his video. Police, however, contend that the officer was not told about the video until after the ticket was issued.

“It could have been better if (the officer) could have actually seen the video immediately,” Peel Regional Police Const. Mark Fischer told CTV Toronto.

According to police, two witnesses told the officer the person with the dashcam was at fault. Now, Fischer said the ticket may not have been issued if police had seen the video.

The driver has to fight the charges in court or he could face up to six demerit points and a large fine.
