The HEAL Cities and Towns Campaign began in 2012 when LiveWell Colorado received grant funding from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The partnership campaign aims to reduce and prevent obesity to improve the health of Colorado citizens. The campaign engages municipal leaders to champion healthy eating and active living in their communities. Our local HEAL coalition members Rita Marsh, Ardis Hoffman, Gwen Garcelon, Cindy Weaver, Elizabeth Cammack, Illene Pevec, Diana Alcantara, Jennifer Bouchet, Hanya Gottardo, Lynn Ruoff, and our Health & Wellness Recreation Coordinator, Margaret Donnelly, have been working tirelessly on this mission. Due to their work, LiveWell Colorado has awarded the highest possible designation to the Town of Carbondale for our commitment to building a healthy community, the Elite status. In order to qualify for Elite status, a city must have adopted five healthy eating and active living policies or programs. This brochure has some of the programs and practices we have put into place. Take advantage of our fitness offerings, our active living youth and senior programming and our healthy eating cooking classes. You have nothing to lose, and if you do, we can help. Recreation Center Manager

This is my favorite time of year. I love the scents (cool, crisp air and chimney smoke). I love the colors (trees changing from greens to yellows and reds). I love the sounds (crackling leaves and rustling branches). But what I love most about fall is that indefinable sensation of change. All seasons have a feeling of change to them. But there is something about the transition to fall that is just mysterious and inexplicable. It is curious and magical. It is so hard to try to put this concept in words and I think part of that stems from the fact that change is hard. But change generally brings growth and new experiences. It is an opportunity to reflect and reevaluate, and therefore, it is a time to try something new. Change happens constantly at Carbondale Recreation. Especially in the fall. We transition to extended hours. We experience a dramatic increase in attendance to our fitness classes and the number of visitors to our center each day. We switch from ball fields and bike parks to ice rinks. And sometimes, we change our prices. Every 5 years, we institute an inflationary increase to our rates. We do this to try to keep pace with the ever-increasing costs of doing business, as well as in order to consistently add more to what we do! Whether it is new fitness classes, new equipment, or new programs, our goal is to always keep experimenting, learning, and improving. As of January 2, 2018, our rate structure may look new. There may be changes. But remember, change is opportunity. And growth. And necessary to move forward. We are excited to offer new and different options. Bring on the fall and all its glorious changes! Jessi Rochel Community Center and Recreational Programs Manager
