Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has warned James Rodriguez that he may not get the transfer he wants if the club don’t get a bid that benefits them.

The Colombia international has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea this summer after losing his place in Zinedine Zidane’s side, with an exit long looking likely.

However, Perez has now told Rodriguez that he is not guaranteed a departure just because he has been pushing for one.

Recent reports claimed United had made a £70million bid for the 25-year-old – £4m more than his supposed asking price, but it remains to be seen if Perez will be persuaded to do business.

‘He (Rodriguez) is one of the best players in the world,’ Perez said.

‘He belongs to Madrid and Madrid players do not leave when they want to or their parents wants them to.

‘We have to match the interests of the players with ours, but mostly those of Madrid.’

United have also been strongly linked with Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, though Perez also looked to dash their hopes with that deal by saying nothing has been agreed.
