New Healdsburg Restaurant Will Put Educational Farming on The Menu

Classroom to farm to table

Kitchen 335

A new Healdsburg restaurant placing an emphasis on farm-to-table cooking is also emphasizing the classroom by sourcing ingredients from a children’s educational farm. The restaurant, Kitchen 335 at 335 Healdsburg Avenue— right on the square in the former Persimmon space — will highlight produce from What’s Up Farms, which works with schools in Santa Rosa to teach young students about farming.

Kitchen 335 comes from Octavio Diaz, the chef/owner of Healdsburg’s Agave Mexican Restaurant & Tequila Bar and Casa De Mole, El Farolito in Windsor, and most recently, Agave Uptown in Oakland. His chef at Kitchen 335, Rodrigo Mendoza (Willi’s Seafood & Raw Bar, Spoonbar), will serve a seasonal menu of food from What’s Up Farms, plus other area producers like Preston Farms and herbs from Diaz’s garden.

Examples include an heirloom tomato salad with lemon, cucumber, watermelon, fresh cheese, croutons, and cilantro vinaigrette and a pork chop that’s served with Octavio’s black mole, potato dumplings, black berries, and pickled grilled onions. Along with a wine list featuring all the locals, Leo Soriano, who came up with the menu for Agave Uptown, will have a mezcal menu and seasonal cocktails — also made with fresh produce and herbs, naturally.

Bar 335 opens on August 21 with daily hours from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
