The Swallow and the Nightingale is a fable about a 4,000 year old secret brought through time by the birds. Dr. Deborah Wright, an ornithologist from Berkeley, discovers the swallows of San Juan Capistrano are singing a human song. She puts her life on the line to discover why. An ancient Sufi poet has the answer. Thea will read from this visionary work of fiction that covers so many important issues of our times: sexual orientation, climate change, patriarchy, science and religion.
“I have never read a work of fiction that combines so much scientific acumen with so much heart.”
“A masterful blend of science-fiction, history, mythology, and the real science that informs its content. A cautionary tale.” “Myth and reality are contrasted and blended for a most unusual and stirring book.”
