Party-list reps make anti-endo, anti-martial law 'fashion statement' during SONA 2017

Representatives of the Gabriela Women's Party made a literal fashion statement during President Rodrigo Duterte's second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.

Representatives Emmi de Jesus and Arlene Brosas expressed their opposition to contractualization or "endo" (end of contract), and martial law in Mindanao through their Mindanao-inspired outfits.

De Jesus wore a Barong with beadwork spelling out "Regular jobs now!" while Brosas wore a black dress hand-painted with the statement "No to martial law."

In a statement, Gabriela expressed support to those calling for the end to contractualization, which was one of President Rodrigo Duterte's campaign promises.

"Gabriela conveys its support to mounting calls for the regularization of endo workers, especially as hundreds of workers from Mindanao and other regions are converging along Commonwealth Ave. today to prod President Duterte to end contractualization as he had promised during the election period," it said.

De Jesus is the principal author of House Bill 1045 or the Regular Employment Bill.

Meanwhile, Brosas, along with other Macabayan bloc lawmakers, voted no to the extension of martial law in Mindanao during Congress' joint session on Saturday. —ALG/KVD, GMA News
