Radiesse for Hands Approved by FDA
The hands can be a real giveaway of age, yet apart from daily application of handcream, most patients are unaware as to what they can do about improving the appearance of the hands.
While anti-ageing facial treatments are commonplace (such as BOTOX for smoothing out lines and wrinkles) there is less focus on similar treatments for the hands.

FDA Approved Radiesse for Hands
In 2015 the FDA (The Consumer Protection Agency of the U.S. Government which monitors medical devices, medicines etc) approved the expanded use of Radiesse Dermal Fillers for hand augmentation – rejuvenating the appearance of the hands by adding volume using injections of the injectable filler product.
Radiesse, produced by Merz Aesthetics, was the first product to be specifically approved for use in the hand area. Jim Hartman, vice president and head of US Aesthetics/OTC for Merz North America said at the time:
“This new indication for Radiesse is a result of our focus on meeting unmet needs in the US aesthetics market, and we are excited to provide our physician customers with this new option to better fulfil the aesthetic desires of their patients.”
The approval was supported by previous clinical studies conducted by Merz over 12 months, which indicated that Radiesse showed statistically significant improvement of volume loss in the hands.
The treatment is effective, safe and non-invasive with minimal risk of side effects (bruising, swelling and redness) which are short term in nature.
