Chance the Rapper took home three BET Awards last night, but he also spent the evening paying tribute to another music star, Michael Jackson. The 24-year-old dressed like the late King of Pop with an MJ-inspired suit—arm band, short pants and white socks included. Yesterday was the perfect day to pay homage to Jackson, since it marked the 8th anniversary of his death. (He passed away in 2009 at the age of 50.)

Chance—whose real name is Chancellor Bennett—debuted his MJ suit on the carpet, where he arrived with his mom as his date. His outfit was spot-on (and it even included a pair of Gucci loafers).

Jackson's signature armband was more than a go-to accessory. As a humanitarian an philanthropist, the music icon reportedly chose to wear it on his right arm to remind people that children are suffering around the world. Historically, armbands are worn to show affiliation with a political party or social movement, or as part of a military uniform. The latter also aligned with MJ's military-inspired personal style.

Fashion with a social message is right up Chance's alley. In addition to being a beloved hip-hop star, the rapper is known for openly supporting Chicago's Public School system and other social issues. One of the accolades he received last night rightfully included the Humanitarian Award, with a special introduction from former First Lady Michelle Obama.
