Waiter Receives A $500 Tip After Doing The Sweetest Thing For A Stranger

“It's not about the money, it’s about showing someone you care”

Good karma seems to be following in all directions in Dallas, Texas, this week with Kasey Simmons at the root of it all. The 32-year-old Applebee’s waiter received a $500 tip after delivering one woman a $0.37 check. “They ordered the cheapest thing on the menu,” Simmons told CNN, “Flavored water.”

But what’s the reason behind this generous bonus? Luckily, the young woman left a note explaining why she found Simmons so deserving. While shopping at the grocery store the day prior, Simmons apparently approached an older woman after noticing she looked particularly distraught. Although they’d never met before, Simmons offered encouraging words and even paid for her groceries. “It was only $17,” he said to CNN, “but it's not about the money, it’s about showing someone you care.”

When the woman returned home in a lighter, happier mood later that day, her daughter decided to track down the man responsible and reward him with a hefty tip. The note she left with her check describes her mother’s struggle to cope on the three-year anniversary of her husband’s death. In part, it reads, “On one of the most depressing days of the year ... you made my mother's day wonderful. You insisted on paying. Told her she is a very beautiful woman. I have not seen this woman smile this much since dad died.”

These displays of human compassion may seem simple on the surface, but as anyone who’s experienced hardship knows, a little kindness can go a long way.
