Seeking Professional Mentors and Internships for CCU Students

Horry Democrats are partnering with the Social Action Committee of Bethel AME Church in Conway to seek professional mentors and internships for local college students.

Conway residents Deloris Rozier and Janice Miller, co-leaders of the Social Action Committee, recently met with the Coastal Carolina University affiliate of the NAACP, when the idea was generated.

The CCU students asked for help in obtaining mentors and internships in the areas of Public Relations, Pre-Law, Information & Technology, English, Political Science, Public Health, Marketing, Psychology, and Pre-Med.

HCDP and the Social Action Committee agreed to cast a wide net to find local experts and/or businesses willing to advise and coach budding young professionals in their chosen fields. In turn, the students will engage in local advocacy.

“This is a very civic-minded group of students willing to work with us in a meaningful way on important issues,” said Ms. Rozier. “The students support our platform of progressive policies and social justice, and they are eager to put their creativity and energy to work to advance our collective agenda.”

“These students are genuinely motivated to provide a ‘better self’ to our community and beyond,” emphasized Ms. Miller. “In my opinion, we would be remiss not to support their efforts.”

Bennie Swans, HCDP Chair, added “If you can help these hard-working, motivated young people – or know of someone else who can – please let us know. Let’s do what Democrats do best and that is support the members of our community. This is a win-win for everyone.”

Please contact Don Kohn at (843) 504-5489 or email westsidedems843@gmail.com if you have any leads on mentors or internships, or if you and your place of business are able to offer support.
