Assam flood scene critical; over 12.5 lakhs affected, seven dead so far

The flood situation in Assam worsened on Monday with over six lakh more people affected across 18 districts, taking the total number of affected people up to 12.5 lakh. Over 88,000 of them have been lodged in 220 relief camps. The death toll has risen to seven in the current wave. The army has been deployed in several districts to rescue the marooned people.

Dhubri, that shares international boundary with Bangladesh, remained the worst affected on Monday with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) putting the number of affected population there at 1.78 lakh. The district authorities have opened 55 relief camps in the district and shifted over 8,000 people from three circles to them.

Other districts where the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have been wreaking havoc in the past two days included Dhemaji (population affected: 1.76 lakh), Barpeta (1.36 lakh), Jorhat (1.35 lakh), Golaghat (1.12 lakh), Lakhimpur (1.08 lakh) and Biswanath (79,000).

The army has been deployed in several districts alongside teams of the NDRF and SDRF to help the authorities rescue and evacuate the affected people. While the Brahmaputra was flowing over the danger level at Dibrugarh, Nimatighat (Jorhat), Tezpur, Guwahat, Goalpara and Dhubri, major tributaries that have caused extensive inundation included Burhidihing, Dhansiri, Jia-Bhoroli, Puthimari and Beki.

Standing crops have been submerged and damaged in about one lakh hectares, with Dhemaji district remaining the most affected. The ASDMA daily report for Monday said over 21,000 hectares of standing crops, over 11,000 big and small farm animals, and about 7,000 poultry birds have been affected in the district.

TSBIE TS Inter Results 2024: Websites to check Telangana IPE 1st, 2nd year result

The TSBIE will announce the TS Inter results on April 24, and students can check their scorecards on the official websites. The exams were held from February 28 to March 19, and a total of 9,80,978 students appeared. The pass percentage for last year's exams was 63.27%. Students can also apply for re-evaluation or supplementary exams if they are unsatisfied with their results.
