Mountainside Hospital Celebrates 140 Local Cancer Survivors

If you're looking for a superhero in Essex County, all you need to do is talk to a local cancer survivor.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — If you’re looking for a superhero in North Jersey, all you need to do is talk to one of the more than 140 cancer survivors who have fought successful battles against the disease from their home base at Hackensack Meridian Health Mountainside Medical Center in Essex County.

During a celebration of the survivors earlier this month in honor of National Cancer Survivor’s Day, Mountainside Hospital administrators used a theme of “superheroes” to highlight the local patients’ courage in the face of a deadly disease.

“You haven’t just survived, you’ve grown… you have become superheroes,” said John Conti, medical director of the hospital’s Cancer Center.

CEO John Fromhold said that it was amazing to experience the joy that each of the survivors carried with them.

Fromhold added that the hospital expects even greater outcomes in the years to come because of its new partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, announced last December.
