School/Church Flooded in Louisiana

On August 12th, 2016, we experienced catastrophic flooding that caused extensive damage to all buildings on our property.  Since we were high above the flood level, we did not have flood insurance. We have therefore launched this GoFundMe campaign.

As staff and church members, we are asking for your donations for Apostolic Christian School and the First Apostolic Church.  Please allow us to share with you information about our various programs.

Our school is 23 years old and has approximately 90 students enrolled from K4 through 12th grade.  One of the main focuses of our church is the school which provides a college preparatory education for our children.  In fact, nearly half of our seniors won scholarships this past school year, and the school's standardized test scores are well above the national average.  The school and cafeteria/fellowship hall are located toward the back of our church property.

Another focus of our church is our Sunday School outreach. Church buses and vans travel throughout the city every Sunday morning bringing children to their Sunday School classes and adults to our main sanctuary.   Sunday School classes are open to the general public and serve every age.  We generally have anywhere from 75-130 visitors each Sunday, and we offer a unique blend of lessons, crafts, and special activities throughout the year as part of our program.  

In addition to the building damage previously noted, we lost contents that we use in these venues as well.  Our school materials for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade were destroyed.  In addition, many of the Sunday School materials and resources are a complete loss as a number of Sunday School classes experienced up to four feet of water intrusion.

Further, our 20,000 square foot sanctuary, which serves as our primary place for assembling in our church while simultaneously being our school chapel, our graduation venue, and our yearly awards program venue, was severaly damaged.  Approximately one foot of water flooded the sanctuary and its adjacent office infrastructure damaging our pews, carpets, and all types of office equipment.

Finally, the building that houses our lawn equipment used for maintaining our church property and school playground was severly flooded as well.  Much of the equipment we use was partially or completely submersed in water.
