Traffic Alerts -
Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass & Rogers Road/Forestville Road

Provided below are multiple traffic alerts for the week of Feb. 20. Please use the information to help plan your route and move safely through the affected areas.

Traffic Alert - Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass
Drivers should expect delays along the Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass in the vicinity of the South Main Street/US 1A intersection Monday, Feb. 20, through Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Fred Smith Co., a private contractor working at the future site of the Lidl supermarket, will close the far left eastbound lane of the Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass between Siena Drive and South Main Street/US 1A, so crews can widen the left-hand turn lane onto South Main/US 1A.

However, the contractor will provide a shortened left-hand turn lane onto South Main/US 1A.

Signs and cones will be in place to safely direct traffic through the work area.

Traffic delays are expected, so motorists may wish to avoid the area and take an alternate route.

Traffic Alert - Rogers Road/Forestville Road
Drivers may experience periodic delays next week in the vicinity of the Rogers Road/South Franklin Street and Forestville Road/Song Sparrow Avenue intersections.

From Tuesday, Feb. 21, through Tuesday, Feb. 28, Fred Smith Co., a contractor working on behalf of the Town of Wake Forest, will begin delivering and installing eight pedestrian bridges as part of the Smith & Sanford Creek Greenway Project.

Measuring 40-60 ft. in length, the bridges will arrive on tractor-trailers. In order to access the Smith & Sanford Creek Greenway, the delivery trucks will travel at various times through the intersections at Rogers Road/South Franklin Street and Forestville Road/Song Sparrow Avenue.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office will direct traffic at these intersections when the bridges arrive. Motorists are advised that minor traffic delays are expected.

For More Information
For more information about these road projects, contact Town Engineer Eric Keravuori.

The Town of Wake Forest provides this information as a public service. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work. Motorists are encouraged to use the information to help plan their route and move safely through the work area. Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, town staff works with contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public. When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution, and obey flaggers at all times. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers are also urged to double their following distances.
