Allegan County Sheriff Blaine Koops to retire

ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI - Sheriff Blaine Koops announced Thursday, Jan. 28, that he will not seek a fifth four-year term.

Koops was elected sheriff in 2000.

Koops announced to the Allegan County Board of Commissioners that he would not seek re-election, Undersheriff Frank Baker confirmed.

He served 26 years with Holland Police Department. He was a captain there before he took over as Allegan County sheriff.

Koops, a Hamilton resident, graduated from Grand Valley State University and earned a master's degree at Western Michigan University.
