Russia’s Gazprom Media, the media division of the natural gas giant Gazprom, is launching KIT, a new Moscow-based studio to produce movies and television series.
“Development of the Russian market for theatrical and television film content is one of Gazprom Media’s main goals,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko, the company’s general director, in a press release.
“We believe that the future of Russia’s media market is in production of national content,” he added.
Gazprom Media wouldn’t reveal the amount of investment in the studio but said that in 2017, KIT would produce 300 hours of high-budget TV series and three theatrical features.
Television series produced by KIT will be aired on Gazprom Media’s NTV and TNT, as well as on non-related networks, such as Channel One.
Producer and director Dzahnik Fayziyev will be the head of the new studio.
In 2013, Gazprom Media acquired ProfMedia, the owner of networks TV3, 2×2 and Pyatnitsa and film producer and distributor Central Partnership.
Central Partnership, which was once a major producer of movies and TV but has recently been out of action, will now completely abandon production to focus on theatrical distribution of movies, including Paramount fare.
KIT’s upcoming projects include the television series Hunt for the Devil, featuring major local star Sergei Bezrukov, and Dead by 99%.
