The protest in Columbus Circle was one of many anti-Trump events held in the city Wednesday night, as the Democratic stronghold struggled to come to grips with Trump's shocking election win.

Columbus Circle's protest was called Say No to Trump! Say no to Racism! Defend Immigrants! and was organized by Answer Coalition, a national organization dedicated to fighting racism.

An anti-Trump protest of thousands began in Union Square at 6 p.m. and marched uptown to the Trump Tower by 8 p.m.

"There are several actions tonight against Donald Trump in NYC," Answer Coalition wrote in the event. "We are in unity with all of them and will be trying our hardest to merge with other actions in the streets. Now's the time to build the movement and a broad united front against Trump, in defense of immigrants, Muslims and for working-class solidarity!"
