Nathaniel's Final Farewell

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Rachel Marshall and I am raising money for my brother's funeral. The money gifted to my family will be used to cover his cremation, along with other expenses to assist my sister who is putting everything  on her credit card. We will need the funds by Monday, March 20, 2017. This would mean the world to us and we would be eternally grateful. Below is the link to Nathaniel's memorial page. Please feel free to leave share your memories of Nate and pictures as well.

Additionally, here are the details surrounding Nathaniel's passing;

   On February 20, 2017 at 9:02 p.m., Nathaniel Lee Larone Marshall was called home, to be with our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ; he was 31 years old. The process of Nathaniel’s gradual decline in his health is as follows.  One day he was on the way home from his doctor’s appointment to determine the placement of a hemodialysis graph. As he was departing from “L” Train he was attacked by four men. They held him at gun point, took his money and beat him. He was able to walk a few blocks when the crossing guard noticed that he was bleeding. She called the ambulance and he was taken to Weiss Hospital, where he was a patient from Monday to Thursday.  After discovering that Nathaniel had developed two hematomas (blood on the brain), Weiss Hospital felt that he was stable to be released/sent home.  The following Monday he was getting ready to go to a hemodialysis session and while in the bathroom he had a seizure, fell and hit his head on the bath tub. Our mother Helen and brother Victor found him drowning in his own vomit. He was readmitted to Weiss Hospital. There he had a grand mal seizure, developed a case of pneumonia as a result of him swallowing his vomit and had to be intubated. Once stable enough, he was transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital under the care of the transplant team. Fifteen to Seventeen days later,   because of the hospital’s proper protocol he had a trach placement.  Also while there received treatment for aspiration pneumonia, his liver, bed sores, diabetes and hemodialysis. He was never in good health.

   He was diagnosed with renal failure at six months old and he was later on peritoneal dialysis. He suffered a side of effect of medication for renal failure that cost him his hearing.  Years later he developed liver failure and diabetes.  He spent most of his life in a hospital because of organ failure. Thankfully he was blessed with a combined transplant surgery at age eleven but he was never 100 percent healthy. His organs and diabetes remained a struggle for him as an adult. We believe that Nate’s health was a contributing factor to his death but had he not been attacked he would still have a physical presence in our lives.

   Nate loved life and people. He was very popular, silly and caring. He loved going to church, being around people, watching movies and going to baseball games. Though he was always ill he loved having fun. It’s a great thing that he was that way just by being himself he gave us something of him to hold onto. Our memories.

   My fondest memories of Nate would be of him waking me up for Saturday morning cartoons and Christmas presents. Our family is very big on board games and it can get really competitive but when he and I played alone we were never out for each other’s throats or even trying to win. If we were playing Monopoly we would never collect each other’s debts if the other didn’t have money. Nate taught me patience, love for my enemies and forgiveness.

   Please don’t grieve too heavily. Nate was not afraid of death. He knew that when the time came he would go home. That was how he would say it. He would want us to take comfort in that. Thank you for your time, prayer and support.

In loving memory of Nathaniel Lee Larone Marshall
