Wake Forest Christmas Parade is Saturday
Area residents are invited to experience the magic of the holiday season during the Wake Forest Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 10. Sponsored by PowerSecure and presented by Wake Forest Downtown, Inc., the parade gets underway at 1 p.m.  This year's procession will feature over 100 colorful floats, high school marching bands, entries from local businesses, churches, schools and civic groups, and - of course - Santa Claus.  The parade will begin at the intersection of Elm Avenue and South White Street and continue north along South White Street before turning east onto Wait Avenue. It will then turn south onto South Brooks Street and continue until ending at the Elm Avenue intersection. Several road closures in the downtown area will take effect Saturday morning beginning at 10 am, so please plan accordingly.




Police Department Accepting Donations for 
"Shop with a Cop" through Dec. 9
The Wake Forest Police Department is accepting donations for the 18th Annual Shop with a Cop through Dec. 9. This year's holiday shopping spree is Wednesday, Dec. 14.  On that day approximately 30 area children will visit the Wake Forest Police Department where they will be paired with their police officer "partners." The kids and their partners will then be transported by bus to the Wake Forest Walmart, where each child will be given $175 to spend on a winter coat and other items of their choice. Calls from Santa Registration Ends Today at 5 pm
A phone call from Santa Claus is on every child's wish list. The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is making those wishes come true by offering Calls from Santa to kids ages 3-9 on Thursday, Dec. 8, from 6-8 p.m.  Registration forms are now available online and at the Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St.  Completed forms must be received at the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources office by 5 p.m., Dec. 8. Telephone registrations will not be accepted.  There is no charge for the event, but all calls must be local.


Wake Forest Community Calendar
The Wake Forest Community Calendar is a comprehensive listing of upcoming local events submitted by non-profit groups and organizations in our area. The Town of Wake Forest provides the Community Calendar as a free service and invites local non-profits, including churches, civic clubs and other community organizations, to submit their events for inclusion on the calendar - according to our detailed submission guidelines. The Community Calendar is typically updated each week on Thursday or Friday. Event announcements received at least one week prior to the event will be included for publication in The Week Ahead. NCDMV Mobile Driver's License Unit

The NCDMV offers a Mobile Driver's License Unit in the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre Arts Annex, 405 S. Brooks St., on the first and third Monday of each month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Division of Motor Vehicles' new compact mobile office is part of Governor Pat McCrory's initiative to improve customer service and reduce wait times at the DMV. Offering two driver license examiner stations, the new mobile office mirrors the driver license services provided in brick-and-mortar offices, including driving tests.

Hope House Weekly Food Pantry

Every Thursday Hope House picks up food from the Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina to give out to the community. Vegetables, individual fruits, cut fruit, salad packages, and breads are the staples. Occasionally we have meat, eggs, fruit juice, and milk. We give the items out on a first come first serve basis. Wake Forest Kiwanis Club

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to 'changing the world, one child and one community at a time.' Its mission is "to serve children of the world". Locally, the Wake Forest Kiwanis Club is involved in many projects which include: providing dictionaries to all 3rd graders in the schools, sponsoring Key Clubs and Builder's Clubs in local schools, passing out water at the July 4th children's parade, providing scholarships, assisting at school cookouts, Salvation Army bell ringers, Wake Forest Christmas Parade, toy drives, food drives, Foster Kids Christmas Party, school supply collection, Lobster Bingo and many others. Christian Motorcyclist Association Monthly Meeting

CMA Youngsville is a new forming chapter of the  Christian Motorcyclist Association. We meet the 1st Thursday of each month at the Forks Restaurant at 6:30 pm. CMA is an international, interdenominational, evangelistic motorcycle ministry whose vision is changing the world, one heart at a time. Bereaved Parents Grief Group

Bereaved Parents Grief Group is for parents, grandparents, and siblings who have experienced the death of a child (any means, any age), a grandchild or brother or sister. No charge to attend nor need to register in advance. The group is facilitated by trained parents who have also experienced the death of a child. Wake Forest Lions Club

Lions Club International is a world-wide organization of volunteers with the purpose of "We Serve". Our primary focus is preservation of eyesight in children and adults. We collect used eyeglasses and other equipment that can be re-purposed for those who cannot afford them. We provide vaccinations for diseases such as measles and river blindness in parts of the world not previously served. We help during natural disasters affecting Lions in all countries.  On a local level, we provide eye and hearing exams free of charge twice a year for all who visit our Mobile Screening Unit. We provide eye exams and eyeglasses year-round to local individuals who cannot afford to buy them.  We raise money in various ways to fund our efforts. We provide funds to the local food bank. We support local families during the Holidays with gifts and food. We support a Leo Club at Wake Forest High School that allows students to learn the effect Lions can have in the community. We strive to serve the Wake Forest community and provide fellowship for the men and women in our club. We welcome new members and Lions moving here from other areas.
