Watch The Millionth Corvette Receive The Restoration It Deserves
From sinkhole victim to stunning vixen, check out the extensive restoration process of the 1,000,000th Corvette.
If you cast your mind back a few years, you’ll probably remember that there was a sinkhole cave-in at the National Corvette Museum. If you don’t remember that, you’ve probably been repressing some bad memories and you should talk that over with a therapist. We don’t want to face that reality any more than you do, but it’s healthier this way. Luckily, that sinkhole was long-enough ago that a few of the cars involved have been fully restored. Here is our favorite example of a restored sinkhole car.
It’s no secret that we have something of a crush on C4-generation Corvettes, and this gorgeous convertible happens to be the millionth Corvette ever built, giving it a bit of added sashay. There are a few of the sinkhole cars that are beyond repairable and we’re honestly quite glad that this piece of Corvette history wasn’t among their numbers.
In fact, this car may have been the least damaged of any of them. This white C4 basically flipped upside-down and landed on its top with very little of the debris falling on top of it, meaning that aside from some cosmetic bodywork damage and crushed windshield posts, the car was relatively unscathed.
As you can see in the video above, the car’s surgery was a resounding success. It’s been returned to its former glory and is allowed to run free for a while before returning to the confines of the museum. We got to see this car on our trip to the National Corvette Museum this spring, and we could not have been happier. Restoration efforts of other sinkhole cars are ongoing, and we look forward to seeing those when they are completed as well. For the time being, great job on this one, folks.
