In what could become a new trend for how celebrities interact with fans, “Guardians of the Galaxy” helmer James Gunn used the new social-media app Periscope to answer fans’ questions — including details on the upcoming sequel to the Marvel hit.
Periscope, an app that could be described as Twitter meets Snapchat, only with video, allows the user to post a live-stream video while questions and reactions appear on the screen.
Gunn spoke live for around 30 minutes from his office on April 1, answering fans’ questions on everything from how many Marvel comics he has read to who should be the next James Bond.
In terms of details on the upcoming sequel, Gunn wasn’t too specific, but he touched on how the tone would be different, that the script was quite far along and that Karen Gillan’s character, Nebula, would return for the sequel.
He also talked about the original pic during the stream, saying that he didn’t have a hard time toning down the violence in the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” and confirming that pictures of his dog’s teeth were used to help design Rocket Racoon’s own dental work.

Another interesting tidbit Gunn discussed was the rumor that his “Guardians of the Galaxy” star Chris Pratt could possibly be the next Indiana Jones. Gunn said that would be very cool, but ended by saying that rumor “seemed like complete bullshit.” Since Gunn said he had been hanging out with Pratt recently, it’s possible he got his information straight from the source.
Gunn’s manner of using of Periscope could become a popular way for filmmakers and celebrities to get information out and appear accessible to their fans. Compared to a Q&A on Twitter, Periscope makes it easier for more questions to be quickly answered and also allows the viewer to see how a person responds to each query.
