Suspects in Locust Point homicide captured in Atlanta, police say

Tonya Hayes, 37, one of 3 suspects wanted for murder; Her son sought by police

A woman and her boyfriend are in custody in Atlanta, Georgia, in connection with a fatal shooting in Locust Point of a bartender, and officials are looking for the woman's 20-year-old son, Baltimore police said."Tonya Arnita Hayes is wanted for murder," Baltimore police media relations Chief T.J. Smith said during a news conference Wednesday morning.Hayes, 37, also faces other related charges, Smith said. Authorities said multiple tips have led police to identify Hayes, and an arrest warrant was issued for her."Thanks to that video technology and thanks to numerous tips that we received in the last 24 hours," Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said.According to investigators, Alex Wroblewski, 41, stopped by the Royal Farms on Lawrence Street after work around 1:15 a.m. He purchased milk and cookies with a $100 bill. Authorities said he may have been under the influence. Safety experts said those two things may have made him a target."It appears in this case that the victim in this case might have been under the influence, and before anyone goes down that path, he was walking, and had every right to be if he was, and as he was walking out of the Royal Farms, the individuals began to follow him. Before he started following him, one of those individuals retrieved something out of his vehicle, and began to follow him," Smith said.A silver four-door car pulled up to the gas pumps and two of the suspects got out."Our victim in this case, Alex, was coming out of the Royal Farms, and one of the individuals we can refer to as a suspect actually held the door for him," Smith said. "The female was inside of the vehicle following the two male suspects as they went to confront Alex."Police found Wroblewski with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He was taken to Shock Trauma, where he died from his injuries."Somebody's dead who doesn't deserve to be dead, and we know that we have three persons that are responsible for the death," Smith said.Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, speaking about crime in general, said she takes it all personally."I feel the pain 24 hours a day. If I sleep four hours maybe, I'm working 24 hours a day for the most part because I will not rest until we reduce violence in this city. It is my No. 1 priority," Pugh said.Baltimore City police did not immediately release the names of the other suspects.
