Former Eagles cornerback injures police officers while trying to escape courtroom

Nnamdi Asomugha isn’t the only former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback in the news lately.

Former starter Dimitri Patterson is also making headlines, but not for good reasons. Patterson recently injured two police officers while trying to escape from a courtroom. Per ESPN:

When the judge ordered his arrest, Patterson attempted to bolt the courtroom and tackled two officers, police said. He could face additional charges, and he remains in custody.

ESPN reported in 2015 that Patterson was arrested on a felony child abuse charge.

Yikes.

In case you forgot, Patterson spent two seasons with the Eagles from 2009-2010. His struggles led to his departure from Philadelphia but there was a time where it looked like he might be good. Remember when Brian Baldinger wrote this?

The decision the Eagles made a month ago to put CB Dimitri Patterson in the starting lineup was the best personnel move they’ve made all season. They have totally contrasting styles, but in Patterson and Asante Samuel, the Eagles have the best cornerback tandem in the league. Samuel plays off the line and is a total playmaker. Patterson plays up, is aggressive, is a great tackler who doesn’t gamble and plays by the book with great technique. Together, they have a great blend of skills. It’s also helped Quintin Mikell to freelance and help out more in the run game. The Eagles can challenge wide receivers as well as anyone in the league right now.

“The best cornerback tandem in the league!”

Baldy is no stranger to hyperbole. Remember when Jamar Chaney was one of the league’s best middle linebackers?

Jamar Chaney is already one of the best MLBs in the league after his first start. He was phenomenal in every phase of the game on Sunday against the Giants, in terms of recognition, physicality, getting off blocks, stopping the run downhill and sideline-to-sideline speed. It’s no knock on Stewart Bradley, but Chaney gives the Eagles their best play from the position in years. He was all over the field. When your MLB is fast and plays fast, it makes the entire defense look fast.

But I digress. It sounds like Patterson could be in even more trouble following this latest incident.
