Feminist mosques and gay marriages: the revolution of the european Islam, from Marseille to Copenhagen

This is the story of a revolution. The revolution of Ludovic-Mohamed Zahed, gay imam of Marseille who leads a LGBT mosque and who celebrates same-sex muslim marriages. The revolution of Seyran Ates, a lawyer who fights for women and minorities and who founded the first gay-friendly mosque of Europe, in Berlin: a place where men and women can pray together and transexual people, atheists and people of other religions are welcome. The revolution of Sherin Khankan, a female imam who promotes a feminist reading of the Qur'an and who created the first women-led mosque of Europe, in Copenhagen. While in many Islamic States homosexuality is still punished with death and women are obliged to prey separately from men and their right to divorce is denied, in Europe a new generation of Muslims is growing: a generation that craves for a modern and democratic interpretation of the message of the Prophet Muhammad. This is the story of their revolution.
